Cognitive Enhancement

Want to know how well your brain performs relative to your age?
This test calculates the age of your brain on the basis of your performance - the better you perform the younger your "brain-age", the worse you perform the older your "brain-age". The calculation is based on the robust inverse correlation of performance with age shown for the spatial working memory test (Tournier et al. 2004). Scientific studies indicate that such tests can be predictive of future dementia, even up to 10 years prior to onset (Small et al. 2000).

Omega-3 Fatty Acid & Brain Nutrition

Important building blocks of your brain

DHA (docosahexaeonic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 family that are essential nutrients we must obtain from our diet. They can not be made by our body and are absolutely critical for good health. Our diets are typically deficient in these omega-3 fatty acids; therefore supplementation is necessary to maintain optimum levels.

DHA is a major structural and signaling component of our brain, the entire nervous system, and the retina in our eyes. It is a membrane component in all cells in our body, but particularly abundant in nerve cells. DHA plays an important role for membrane fluidity, and as a signaling precursor, and as such is critical to brain function.

A deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids can contribute to various neurological, mental and other illnesses with symptoms that may include:

Learning and behavioural deficiencies
Poor short term memory
Poor concentration
Memory loss
Feeling depressed
Clumsiness
Visual disturbances
Recurrent infections
Allergies
Constant thirst
Itchy dry eyes
Raised cholesterol
Raised blood pressure
Inflammatory diseases such as arthritis

The benefits of supplementing your diet with omega-3 fatty acids  can include:

Increased concentration
Brain function improvements
Better eye health, skin condition, and joint mobility
Mental alertness / concentration ability
Better ability to cope with emotional challenges
Better ability to do schoolwork

Neurogenol® contains a particluar omega-3 concentrate called EPAX Omega oil. This particular blend of EPA and DHA has undergone clinical testing and was shown to reduce the rate of cognitive decline in people with very mild Alzheimer’s disease. See the graph below.

EPAX Omega oil raised serum levels of DHA by 240% and EPA levels by 360% after 6 months of supplementation. Raising the level of these omega-3 fatty acids to such extend will have significant flow on effects for heart health and eye health.

In addition EPAX Omega oil has been shown to induce the least amount of amyloid fibrils compared to other omega-3 products and to other edible oils. Amyloid fibrils are implicated in the development of several common neurological diseases such as Alzheimers Disease, Parkinsons disease, Prion diseases and type 2 diabetes.

EPAX omega-3 oil concentrates are produced to the highest purity standards in the industry. Pollutants, and toxic metals are alway monitored, and their levels are far below allowable limits.

EPAX also produce their omega-3 oil with low heat input and under low oxygen conditions which means the oil has the lowest levels of oxidative degradation.

The EPAX Omega oil is also additionally protected from oxidation when  in the Neurogenol capsules because of the strong anti-oxidation effect of the Enzogenol® pine bark extract present in the formulation.
